The New Negro Woman: Club and Blues

New Negro Women pushed for the acknowledgment of the struggling minority of African American women during the Harlem Renaissance.  The black woman’s views, treatment by others, need for change, and personal image were all exposed through the work of black women writers, intellectuals, entertainers and artists. Two specific groups of women, Club and Blues, pushed for society to understand the experiences and the reality of black women, along with fighting for equal rights regarding race and gender.Club and Blues Women were a vital and integral part of the Harlem Renaissance, playing a significant role in the change of social expectations and limitations of black women in society.
